New to Daidokan Martial Arts, Bear Publishing
Back in 1986 as a young forester I moved from my home in the Scottish Borders to Hexham in the North East of England. Already very much hooked on karate I was on the look out for a suitable club in my new town. One day I saw a window cleaner in his mid sixties performing Bassai dai at the bottom of his ladder. I immediately struck up a friendship with him and although in his sixties he was a strong bugger, you just didn't want to be grappling with him. It was only years later I discovered that he was the father of a local blacksmith, whom I was hearing tales of amazing feats of strength. I was searching for some second hand weights and Alan said my son Stan has some for sale. Turned out to be Stan Pike the aforementioned blacksmith. The deal was struck and Stan with a twinkle in his eye put all the weights on the bar, I suspect to test me out. I passed.
Two years ago I purchased a second hand book The Kettle Bell Bible which is packed full of all sorts useful training advice not just for Kettlebells turned out to be written by Stan and his mate Rob Beauchamp. Since starting up DaidokanMartialArts.com I have tracked down Stan and am proud and privilaged to be a stockist and reseller their brilliant books and DVDs.
Martial arts are full of books and DVD on hoju undo and conditioning the problem is they show you how the various implements are used but not how to set up a training regime that will get you the best results. Bear publishing have filled this gap in that all the same principles of kettlebell training are readily transferable to other types of strength and conditioning regimes. Regardless of the tools being used.
Over the last 30 years I have never found any books that cover as much as these two guys produce. Their enthusiasm for the subject just jumps out at you. No bells whistles or corny catch phrases, just good old fashioned value for money.
